Lu Ann Haygood founded Watercolor Travel and selectively hosts journeys every year. Croatia is one trip she and her husband Dan don't miss — this is their third year sailing the Dalmation coast, after two that sold out. Three summers in, they know these harbors firsthand: where to eat, when to climb, what's worth getting up early for.
Sail Croatia's coast from Dubrovnik to Trogir — walled towns, island harbors, the Blue Cave, and a swim stop on most sailing days.
EMBARKATION IN DUBROVNIK
On arrival, you'll be met at the airport and transferred to the port, where embarkation begins at 14:00. Settle into your cabin, then join Lu Ann and your fellow travelers for a welcome reception on board. The evening is yours to explore — Dubrovnik's walls and old town are at their best once the light starts to go. Overnight in Dubrovnik.
DUBROVNIK TO ŠIPAN
This morning, head into the old town with a licensed guide. The walk follows the Stradun, Dubrovnik's polished limestone main street, past the Onofrio Fountain, the statue of Orlando, and the Church of St. Blaise, the city's patron saint. Return to the yacht for lunch as we sail up the coast to the island of Šipan and its fishing village, Šipanska Luka — about as far from the crowds of the walled city as you can get in an afternoon. If weather or docking limits prevent us from anchoring at Šipan, we'll cruise instead to Slano on the mainland. Tonight, a welcome dinner on board. Overnight in Šipan or Slano.
MLJET NATIONAL PARK & KORČULA
We depart in the morning for the island of Mljet, where the national park encloses two saltwater lakes — Veliko Jezero and Malo Jezero, the Big Lake and the Small — and a 12th-century Benedictine monastery on St. Mary's Islet, in the middle of the larger one. Walk the lakeshore at your own pace; it's one of the quietest mornings of the trip. Back on board for lunch, we cruise on to Korčula, among the best-preserved medieval towns in the Mediterranean and thought to be the birthplace of Marco Polo. Your guide leads a walking tour in the afternoon, and the evening is free to find a restaurant serving homemade island cooking. Overnight in Korčula.
KORČULA TO HVAR
BIŠEVO BLUE CAVE & VIS
This morning we sail for the island of Biševo and its Blue Cave, where sunlight enters through an underwater opening and reflects off the white seabed, filling the cave with aquamarine light. The cave can only be reached by boat, and wind, waves, or currents sometimes make it inaccessible — conditions are known only on the morning of the visit. Lunch and swim stops follow as we continue to Vis, which was closed to outsiders during the Yugoslav era and remains one of the least developed islands on the coast. The afternoon is yours to explore. Depending on port capacity, we may dock instead at Komiža, a fishing village on the island's western shore. Overnight in Vis or Komiža.

After breakfast, it's time to disembark. Your cruise manager will confirm departure transfer times to the airport.
DISEMBARKATION IN TROGIR
Our last day of sailing takes us to Trogir, with one more swim stop on the way and lunch on board. An afternoon walking tour traces the town's Greek, Roman, and Venetian history through its narrow cobbled streets to the Cathedral of St. Lawrence, Trogir's Romanesque-Gothic landmark. After some free time in town, the evening belongs to the ship: the Captain's dinner on board. Overnight in Trogir.Split is the second largest Croatian town, best known for its glorious palace of Roman Emperor Diocletian which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Overnight in Split.
SPLIT TO TROGIR
Breakfast on board as we sail for Hvar, with lunch on deck and swim stops along the way. On arrival, a guided city tour covers Hvar's history and architecture, including the Cathedral of St. Stephen and the town's theater, which dates to 1612 and is among the oldest in Europe. After the tour, explore on your own. Hvar is known for its nightlife, if you're inclined to see it. Overnight in Hvar.
We leave Vis in the morning for Split, stopping for a swim if the weather allows, with lunch on board. In the afternoon, a guide walks you through Croatia's second-largest city, built in and around the palace of the Roman emperor Diocletian — a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979, and still lived in today. The evening is free for dinner in the old town or along the Riva promenade. Overnight in Split.
